MRI second opinion online: your report, reviewed by Swiss specialists

Had an MRI and want to double-check the report or understand it better? Specialist radiologists review your existing MRI images independently and in writing. You upload the images online and receive a structured second-opinion report as a PDF.

What is an MRI second opinion?

An MRI second opinion is a fresh, independent review of MRI images you already have, by a second specialist radiologist. No new scan is performed: the review is based on your images and the existing report.

The second opinion is a written assessment of the imaging. It does not replace the examination, advice or treatment by your own doctor. It helps you put the first report in context and prepare the conversation with your treating physician.

When is an MRI second opinion useful?

  • When the MRI report is unclear or leaves questions open
  • Before surgery or another far-reaching treatment decision
  • When the report and your symptoms do not match
  • For rare or complex findings, for example of the brain, spine, joints or prostate
  • When you want the report explained in plain language

How the MRI second opinion works online

  1. Upload your images

You upload the MRI images (DICOM from a CD or USB stick, JPG or PDF also work) and the existing report, and describe your question.

  2. Specialist review

Your case goes to the matching subspecialty. A specialist radiologist reviews the images independently and in a structured way.

  3. Receive the report

You receive the written second-opinion report as a PDF in your account, together with a plain-language summary.

The process in detail, from order to report, is described under How it works.

Costs and insurance

An MRI second opinion is usually a self-paid service that you pay for online when you order. Whether your health insurer or a supplementary policy reimburses all or part of it depends on your contract and has to be checked case by case. It is best to ask your insurer before ordering; you can submit the written report to them.

MRI second opinion: frequently asked questions

How much does an MRI second opinion cost?

Depending on the package, CHF 250 (Essential), CHF 350 (Standard) or CHF 600 (Premium) per examination. Every package includes a specialist report as a PDF and a plain-language summary; the packages differ in turnaround time and extra services.

How quickly will I receive the MRI second opinion?

Within 1–2 business days with Essential, 1 business day with Standard and 6 clinical working hours with Premium (Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00 Swiss time), counted from receipt of payment and the complete image files.

How do I get my MRI images for a second opinion?

Ask the imaging centre or hospital where the MRI was done. They will give you a copy of your images, usually on a CD, a USB stick or as a download, together with the written report. Upload the folder unchanged in our form.

Which MRI examinations can get a second opinion?

MRI examinations of any body region, for example brain MRI, spine MRI, knee or shoulder MRI and prostate MRI. Each package covers one examination or body region.

Will my health insurance cover the MRI second opinion?

You pay for the second opinion directly to us. Whether your health insurer or supplementary insurance reimburses part of it depends on your policy, so please ask them first. You can submit the report to them.

What happens if the second opinion differs from the first report?

The second-opinion report explains clearly where the assessment agrees with the first report and where it differs. Discuss both reports with your treating doctor, who decides on the next steps together with you.
