Prof. Bonel is a Bern-based radiologist whose clinical and academic work has centred on breast imaging and skeletal radiology with a focus on rheumatology for more than two decades. He practises at Lindenhofspital, part of the Lindenhofgruppe, and at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, and he is a member of the Swiss Society of Senology. He studied medicine at the Technical University of Munich, completed his radiology residency at the LMU Munich and a research fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. His research on breast MRI and structured reporting has appeared in leading journals including Radiology. He also reads pelvic MRI for gynaecological indications: uterine fibroids and adenomyosis, including FIGO mapping for treatment planning, ovarian masses characterised with the O-RADS system to separate benign from malignant, and endometriosis, with staging and anatomical mapping for surgical planning. Those reports are structured for direct use by the referring gynaecologist. Every mammogram, ultrasound, breast MRI and pelvic MRI he reviews is read with the eye of a specialist who reads these studies every working day, and with a clear sense of what a finding means for the woman waiting for an answer.
